Kris Mock, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist in
Nashville, TN
MS, RDN, CSOWM, LDN
“It’s all about balance.”
Kris Mock is a Nashville native and has been a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist for more than 25 years. Her path into dietetics began during her junior year of college, when her father was diagnosed with cancer. Witnessing firsthand the impact nutrition had on his health and healing opened her eyes to the powerful role dietitians play in medical care — and changed the course of her career.
Up until that point, Kris believed the only roles in medicine were doctors and nurses. That experience introduced her to the field of nutrition and sparked a lifelong passion for helping others use food as a tool to support health, wellness, and quality of life.
Today, Kris supports adults seeking sustainable weight loss nutrition counseling, wellness-focused care, and long-term lifestyle change.
Kris’s Philosophy on Nutrition & Weight Loss
Throughout her career, Kris has focused on wellness and weight management, including eight years working in medical and surgical weight loss settings. She goes beyond simply educating clients about nutrition — instead, she focuses on how individuals can realistically apply what they learn to their daily lives.
Kris often hears clients say, “I know what to do — I just don’t know how to do it.” That’s where she thrives. She loves problem-solving alongside her clients and helping them develop practical, personalized strategies that truly fit their lifestyle.
Kris specializes in wellness, weight management, and sustainable behavior change. Her foundation is rooted in nutrition balance and lifestyle, and over time she developed a passion for a more integrative, root-cause approach. As a Certified Functional Nutrition Informed Professional, she enjoys connecting the dots between metabolism, hormones, inflammation, and overall health.
A Little About Kris
Kris enjoys spending time with her husband, two daughters, and two dogs. As a family, they love exploring state and national parks and fitting in a friendly game of pickleball whenever they can.
Favorite dish to cook: Kris is quick to admit that she’s a dietitian who doesn’t particularly enjoy cooking — something many of her clients appreciate. She sticks to simple, balanced meals like salmon with broccoli slaw and frozen wild rice.

Understanding Our Credentials
-
The RD/RDN credential is the gold standard in nutrition and dietetics. To earn it, a practitioner must complete a minimum of a master's degree in dietetics or a related field, finish an accredited supervised practice program, and pass a national board examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration. RDNs are also required to complete continuing education to maintain their credential. In Tennessee, RDNs must additionally hold state licensure as a Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist.
-
The LDN is a state license issued by the Tennessee Department of Health that authorizes a dietitian to practice nutrition counseling in Tennessee. It ensures that practitioners meet state-specific standards for education, training, and professional conduct. All of our dietitians hold active LDN licensure in Tennessee.
-
The CSOWM is a board certification awarded by the Commission on Dietetic Registration recognizing advanced expertise in obesity and weight management. To earn this certification, a dietitian must demonstrate significant clinical experience working with patients on weight management and pass a rigorous specialty exam. It reflects a higher level of specialized training beyond the standard RDN credential and is held by a relatively small percentage of practicing dietitians nationally.
-
A Master of Science degree reflects advanced academic training in dietetics, nutrition science, or a related field. It involves graduate-level coursework in areas such as medical nutrition therapy, research methods, and advanced clinical practice. All RDNs are now required to hold at minimum a master's degree as part of their credentialing pathway.
-
This certification reflects additional training in functional nutrition — an approach that considers the whole person, including lifestyle, environment, and root causes of health concerns, alongside evidence-based clinical nutrition practice. It adds another dimension to Kris's ability to support clients with complex or interconnected health needs.
What’s the Difference between a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and a Nutritionist
In Tennessee, the title "nutritionist" is not a protected term — meaning anyone can use it regardless of their education, training, or credentials. A Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, by contrast, has completed a minimum of a master's degree, an accredited supervised practice program, passed a national board examination, and holds active state licensure.
This distinction matters when your health is involved. Nutrition counseling for weight management, diabetes, heart health, or bariatric support requires clinical training and accountability that a credential like RDN ensures — and that the title "nutritionist" alone does not.
When you work with our team, you can be confident you're receiving care from licensed, credentialed professionals whose training and practice are held to rigorous national and state standards.
